New York Post Turns to Podcasts to Make Headlines
The New York City tabloid, founded back in 1801 by Alexander Hamilton, hopes to reach the next generation of news consumers through podcasts.
The New York Post, best known for its tabloid stories and clever headlines, is now looking to create podcasts with national appeal.
It just launched Pod Force One with Miranda Devine, which debuted in the top ten overall on Apple Podcasts. Her first guest? President Trump.
The newspaper has had some podcasts over the years, mostly sports, but nothing large enough to make a splash.
“We never really put our toe in the water,” Sean Giancola, the publisher and CEO of The New York Post, told a media executive breakfast in Washington in late April.

“We’re launching three new podcasts in the next six months,” Giancola told the audience. “A couple are personality-driven. One’s around news.”
The Post started developing these new shows earlier this year. FOX Corporation’s recent acquisition, Red Seat Ventures, has been involved.
“We want to meet our audience where they are,” Giancola added, and that means podcasts, newsletters and social media.
After the breakfast, I asked Giancola whether the Post will develop a podcast called Headless Body in Topless Bar, a reference to the classic Post headline from 1983.
He looked at me, smiled, and then we both laughed.
MY RECOMMENDATION If you enjoy baseball, check out The Show, hosted by the Post’s two colorful baseball columnists, Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. These two guys dish the dirt on Major League Baseball and stars like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
